Commentary

I was stumped on this one for quite a while, then saw a program about the World War I memorial at Verdun and created this image. The chain is composed of parts from the figurehead's chain. The stone was created from scratch using the colors from the stone structure to the right of the figurehead (texture via a render>cloud layer and the render>lighting effects filter) and adopts the square holes as a pattern. The Latin may mean 'For the Fatherland' -- I sure hope so. The shadows of a willow tree and a pensive woman were added to extend the story. The font is Trajan Pro with an emboss style.
