In selecting the flower I used all-black and all-white background layers to check the accuracy of the selection. I liked the effect of the flower against the black background and decided to use it in this image. I decided to add the frame to allow me to play with the depth of the image by interposing it with the petals and adding shadows. The frame was created by filling a selection with a color taken from the flower, adding a little noise and then a layer style bevel.
