The beak on the pelican caught my eye and after I had isolated it from the rest of the image, it reminded me of a segment of an insect leg. The legs on the bug, as well as the mandibles and the tail extensions are made from modified pelican beaks. The rest of the bug was created ad hoc. Leaf brushes were used for the greenery and a gravel fill was used to create the ground surface.
