Looking at the pictures on the base of the statue and the structure of the doorway, these pilots are probably US Navy fighter pilots from the W.W.II era. My first thought in seeing the picture, though, was of B17 Flying Fortresses, so that's what I worked toward. I selected the pilots and moved them to separate layers, reversing one and placing him behind the other. The B17 began as a stock photo and was substantially modified. The overall look is the graphic pen filter applied to one version overlaid on an unaltered layer, the combination colored sepia with a color adjustment layer. The slanting graphic pen strokes reminded me of rain, which fit in with my imaginary B17 base in Britain.
