The original is a statue outside the Buddy Holly museum in Lubbock, TX. My associations here began with the scene in the Holly bio-pic where he plays the Apollo theater in Harlem -- and the audience expects him to be black. I used to live a couple of blocks from the Apollo, so the marquee came to mind -- I found an old picture of the theater on-line and recreated it here, adding Holly & The Crickets to the bill. The outline of Holly was adapted from a stock photo. The background is a blend of two stock photos.
