The
statue of General Patton at the memorial in Indio, California
led inevitably to memories of my Dad, who was in an armored
signal battalion in Patton's Third Army in WWII as it
pushed from Normandy through France and ultimately to
Czechoslovakia. His unit trained at Indio, too. I've used
a stock photo of a Sherman tank as the background here.
The red circle came originally from associations to the
Red Ball Express, the remarkable logistical effort that
kept Patton supplied with enough gas to keep advancing
(maybe too obscure a reference for all but ex-Ordnance
Corps guys), but I decided it worked as the sun setting
behind Patton as he moved east across France, too. The
font is Stencil.
